Nasarawa Governor Presents N517.5bn 2026 Budget Focused on Strategic Consolidation

Lafia, Nasarawa State – Governor Abdullahi Sule on Wednesday presented a N517.5 billion budget proposal for the 2026 fiscal year to the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, outlining plans to consolidate infrastructure projects, boost job creation, and improve public services across the state.

The budget, themed “Budget of Strategic Consolidation,” seeks to enhance connectivity, stimulate industrialisation, support small and medium enterprises (SMEs), advance agricultural productivity, and strengthen healthcare, education, urban renewal, and environmental management.

Governor Sule highlighted that the total budget is divided between N212.79 billion (41.12%) for recurrent expenditure and N304.75 billion (58.88%) for capital projects. Key allocations include:

  • Infrastructure: N157.8 billion (30.49%)
  • Governance, Security & General Administration: N142.96 billion (27.62%)
  • Education: N92.91 billion (7.95%)
  • Health: N37.19 billion (7.19%)
  • Economic Sector (Finance, Investment & Trade, Agriculture, Water Resources, Science & Technology): N265.8 billion combined

Other priorities include environment and community development, youth and sports, tourism, legislation, law and justice, and women empowerment.

Sule also announced the establishment of six strategic agencies to drive sectoral modernisation and institutional strengthening, including the Nasarawa State Fire & Rescue Service Agency, Nasarawa State Education Trust Fund, Institute of Leather & Science Technology, Doma, and the Nasarawa State Multi-Door Court House.

In response, Speaker Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau assured the governor of the Assembly’s commitment to timely passage of the budget and urged Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to strictly comply with budgetary provisions. He also called on the public to support the administration’s development agenda while promoting peace, unity, and mutual respect across the state.

Governor Sule concluded that the budget aims to ensure sustainable development that benefits current and future generations of Nasarawa State.
