The Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, Bello Shehu, has ordered the immediate activation of all school protection mechanisms as part of renewed efforts to safeguard students and staff across the state.
The directive was issued during a meeting with tactical commanders to review broader security strategies, according to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, on Monday.
Shehu said the move aligns with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who recently emphasised increased security around educational institutions nationwide.
As part of the new measures, additional police resources will be deployed to vulnerable schools across Katsina. The commissioner also called on residents to support the command’s crime-fighting efforts by reporting suspicious activities promptly.
The renewed focus on school safety follows a rise in attacks and abductions targeting educational institutions across northern Nigeria, particularly in Kebbi and Niger states. The surge in insecurity has already forced several state governments to order full or temporary school closures.
Shehu assured that the command remains committed to preventing further incidents, urging communities to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies.
