Amotekun Arrests 10 Suspected Criminals in Ondo, Suspends Three Officers Over Misconduct

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as the Amotekun Corps, has arrested 10 suspected criminals allegedly involved in various crimes across the state, including kidnapping, robbery, theft, and vandalism.

The corps’ commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed this on Monday while parading some of the suspects at the Amotekun headquarters in Akure, the state capital.

Adeleye said four of the suspects were presented for parade, while six others remained in custody as investigations continued.

“Today, we are parading four notorious suspects. In addition to that, we have another six suspects arrested in the last two weeks in connection with robbery and kidnapping. Because investigations on those cases are still ongoing, they will not be paraded yet,” he said.

Those paraded include Ogungbemi Adebayo, Nasiru Suleiman, Saliu Nureni, and Ahmed Oladimeji.

According to the commander, Adebayo, aged 29, confessed to working as an informant for suspected kidnappers in the Ademekun Power Line area at Ago Dada Camp.

“He said he was recruited a few months ago and later trained by some Fulani men on how to use an AK-47 rifle. He had been working with them until a joint patrol team of the Civil Defence Corps and Amotekun, with assistance from the Ademekun community, apprehended him,” Adeleye revealed.

Another suspect, Nasiru Suleiman, was arrested for allegedly dismantling a government-owned caterpillar parked along the Akure–Ondo Road, while Saliu Nureni, 57, was accused of robbery and arson at the NEPA Market area in Akure.

“We equally have one Ahmed Oladimeji, arrested with a generator and alternator he stole around Igoba in Akure,” the commander added.

Adeleye also announced the suspension of three Amotekun officers for misconduct, saying they acted outside the corps’ operational ethics.

“As we stand today, the three of them have been reprimanded and declared wanted. In a security organisation where oaths of allegiance and secrecy to the state are sacred, such behaviour cannot be condoned. They acted in isolation, and the Corps as an entity will not be dragged into social media controversies,” he stated.

He added that the suspended officers would face due process, emphasising that the corps remains committed to professionalism and the protection of lives and property in Ondo State.

“The Corps remains solid. We are not distracted. If they are innocent, due process will clear them, but the Amotekun Corps will not compromise its integrity,” Adeleye affirmed.
