FG Approves Promotion of 47 Senior NBTE Staff Amid Leadership Vacuum

The Federal Ministry of Education has approved the promotion and confirmation of 47 senior staff members of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in a bid to sustain institutional growth and operational efficiency.

The decision, conveyed in a letter dated March 13, 2025, was signed by the Ministry’s Director of Human Resources, Omotayo F. Adeyemi, according to a statement released by NBTE’s Head of Media Unit, Fatimah Abubakar, in Kaduna on Monday.

Nine Acting Directors Confirmed as Substantive Directors

Among those promoted were nine Acting Directors, who were officially confirmed as substantive Directors after undergoing written examinations and oral interviews.

The statement emphasized that despite the absence of an NBTE Governing Board since March 2021, the Ministry deemed the promotions necessary to ensure the board’s continued effectiveness.

Call for NBTE Governing Board Reconstitution

The NBTE also expressed optimism that President Bola Tinubu would constitute a new Governing Board this year to enhance the board’s operational capacity and service delivery.

“The Federal Ministry of Education remains dedicated to fostering excellence in leadership and ensuring that proper structures are in place for effective policy implementation,” the statement read.

The NBTE plays a critical role in regulating technical and vocational education in Nigeria, and the absence of its Governing Board has raised concerns about delays in decision-making and policy implementation.

Stakeholders have urged the government to expedite the appointment of a new board to enhance the board’s mandate execution and strengthen the country’s technical education sector.
