FG Announces Closure of Independence Bridge for Maintenance

The Federal Government has announced the closure of the Independence Bridge (Marina-bound) in Lagos starting April 1, 2025, for essential maintenance and rehabilitation works.

The Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, noting that the bridge would remain closed until the end of May 2025.

Traffic Disruptions and Alternative Routes

The closure will affect motorists traveling from:

  • Ahmadu Bello Way
  • Adeola Odeku
  • Heading towards Marina, Eko Bridge, and Onikan (Zone 2).

Kesha advised road users to plan their journeys accordingly and explore alternative routes to avoid congestion during the repair period.

Public Advisory and Apology

While acknowledging the inconvenience the closure may cause, Kesha thanked the public for their patience and cooperation as the government undertakes necessary repairs to ensure the safety and stability of the bridge.

Motorists are encouraged to stay updated on traffic advisories and follow directions from relevant authorities to ease movement in the affected areas.
